(HAMMOND) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of 60-year-old Daniel Auwerda of Hammond.
Early Wednesday afternoon a construction worker observed a body floating in the Little Calumet River near the toll road by 151st and White Oak.
East Chicago Police and construction workers made their way to the body, approximately 60 feet from the shore in 3.5 feet of water.
The body was brought to shore and identified as Auwerda.
The death investigation is being conducted by the Hammond Police, Indiana Conservation Officers, and the Lake County Coroner's Office.
An autopsy was performed Thursday to determine what contributed to Auwerda's death.
