(UNDATED) - More than 40,000 Hoosiers could lose their food stamp benefits soon if they don’t meet new work training requirements.
The change affects those on food assistance between the ages of 18 and 49 who are not receiving disability benefits and do not have children.
The Indianapolis Star reports people getting benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program could lose them if they're not working a certain number of hours.
Their other option is taking part in a training program. IMPACT (Indiana Manpower and Comprehensive Training) provides education, training, job search and placement to help SNAP recipients get back on their feet.
The new requirements kicked in July 1st.
