(INDIANAPOLIS) - While the 2015 U.S. corn crop is estimated to have its second highest corn yield in history, Indiana growers are taking a hit.
The Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour and the USDA August Crop Production Report put Indiana below its typical production yields for the first time in years.
The report estimated corn yields at 158 bushels per acre, 10 bushels below the national average.
The crop tour's estimate for this year is about 24 percent less than the 2014 average
The USDA puts Indiana corn production under a billion bushels and average yields lower than the national average for the first time in years.
The cause is the continuous rain that interrupted the planting season.
