(RICHMOND) - A real estate company is planning to overhaul an eastern Indiana city’s 113-year-old passenger train depot into office and potential restaurant space.
The former Pennsylvania Railroad Depot in Richmond closed in 1979 and at one time faced potential demolition.
Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate First Realty Group is seeking $500,000 from the city Redevelopment Commission toward renovation work.
Company president Jeff Owens tells the Palladium-Item that the business plans a $2.25 million investment in the building. Owens says the realty company would use much of the old depot's second floor for its offices and develop the first floor for offices and restaurants.
The company hopes to begin renovation work later this year and have the depot ready for occupancy by next April.
