(LAFAYETTE) - A dangerous situation with a bridge on I-65 is affecting thousands of drivers.
Northbound lanes in Tippecanoe County will be closed until at least Thursday while crews work to repair the bridge.
I-65 NB is closed between the 172 mile marker (State Road 26 exit) and the 175 mile marker (State Road 25 exit) due to a "structural bridge problem" over the Wildcat Creek. INDOT said crews noticed unusual movement when they were working to widen the bridge. The lanes were closed Tuesday around 3 p.m.
At first, INDOT said I-65 would be closed for 12 hours, but later announced it could be closed for up to 48 hours.
Crews will install temporary support beams to access and make repairs on a vertical riverbank pier. New supports will then be installed underneath the bridge beams.
