(KOKOMO) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the 20-year prison sentence of a Kokomo woman who was intoxicated when she caused a fatal crash.
Char'Dae Avery pleaded guilty to a felony charge of causing another person's death while operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana.
Police said the 22-year-old ignored a stop sign and drove through an intersection. Her car struck a car driven by 37-year-old Matthew Foutch, who died from his injuries.
Her car's data recorder showed Avery was driving 75 mph in a 45mph zone and did not attempt to brake until one second prior to the collision.
The Kokomo Tribune reports the appellate court's summary of the case says Avery began dancing after exiting her vehicle and one witness heard her yell, "I did it!"
