(LAWRENCE) - Lawrence Police have arrested 44-year-old Shuron Scott for neglect after she allegedly left two children alone in an SUV Wednesday afternoon while she shopped at a Pendleton Pike Kroger.
WTHR reports, when an officer responded to the scene, he found a 4-year-girl standing in the back floorboard of the Chevy Equinox, leaning over a young child who was screaming hysterically in her car seat, according to the police report.
The officer reported that the car was not running, the rear passenger-side window was cracked nearly one inch and no adult was in sight.
The outside temperature at the time was 79 degrees, the report said.
Both children were wearing long-sleeve shirts and pants.
Scott arrived at the car nearly three minutes after the officer arrived on scene. She got inside the car and turned on the air conditioning.
The officer walked inside the Kroger store to speak with the manager who viewed surveillance video which showed that Scott was inside the store for nearly 15 minutes while the children were sitting in the vehicle.
The officer then arrested Scott, the kids' babysitter, on two counts of neglect of a dependent.
The kids' mother picked up the children a short time later.
Shuron was booked into the Marion County Jail.
