(COLUMBUS) - A man was arrested Saturday after a brief standoff at a Columbus McDonald’s.
At approximately 5:18 a.m. Indiana State Trooper Korry Clark and officers from the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department and Columbus Police Department were called to the restaurant on Third Street in Columbus due to a person acting erratically and holding a knife.
When officers arrived they found 36-year-old Lucino Evangelio-Cayetano, hiding in a utility closet.
Evangelio-Cayetano was holding a knife and a bottle of a cleaning solution.
Officers evacuated the restaurant for safety reasons.
Officers then gave Evangelio-Cayetano numerous commands to drop the knife. He refused and continued to wave the knife toward police and sprayed the cleaning solution towards them.
After a short standoff, Evangelio-Cayetano was tased by one of the officers and then taken into custody by Trooper. Clark without further incident.
Evangelio-Cayetano was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for evaluation.
After being released from the hospital, he was incarcerated at the Bartholomew County Jail.
Evangelio-Cayetano was arrested on the a felony charge of criminal recklessness with a weapon, criminal trespass, Class A misdemeanor, resisting law enforcement, Class A misdemeanor, and intimidation, Class A misdemeanor.
It is unclear at this time where Evangelio-Cayetano resides.
Trooper Clark was assisted by the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department.
