Near Drowning At Deam Lake

(BORDEN) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a near drowning incident that occurred around 12:50 p.m. Monday near Borden.

The incident occurred within the public beach area of Deam Lake State Recreation Area.

Just after 12:50 p.m. Indiana Conservation Officers Central Dispatch received a call from property personnel stating that a female patient had been pulled from the water and was unresponsive. CPR was immediately started by several medically trained bystanders and property personnel.

The patient, 24-year-old Virginia Ramos, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, was reported by witnesses to have been underwater for about a minute. Ramos was transported to Clark Memorial Hospital for additional treatment and evaluation. At the time of transport the patient was conscious and breathing.

Also responding at the scene were the Clark County Sheriff's Department, and Yellow EMS.

Indiana Conservation Officers strongly urge everyone to always wear a lifejacket when around water, especially if swimming ability and or water conditions are questionable. The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be provided once it becomes available.
