(TERRE HAUTE) - Federal prosecutors have charged a western Indiana county councilman with voter fraud and witness tampering.
FBI agents arrested 70-year-old Max Judson of Sullivan on Monday morning. He made an initial appearance in federal court and was released.
A complaint alleges the Judson during the weeks leading up to the May 2014 primary election solicited someone to complete an absentee ballot application despite knowing that person was ineligible to register to vote and then tried to prevent that person from notifying authorities of the crime.
Judson is currently on the Sullivan County Council.
An affidavit states that Judson admitted to FBI agents he told several voters to be untruthful on ballots.
A home telephone listed in his name was disconnected and he could not be reached for comment.
