(WASHINGTON D.C.) - The Division Chief Engineer for Trusted Microelectronics for the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center testified before the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Wednesday in the nation’s capitol.
Brett Hamilton testified as an expert on counterfeit parts in the Joint Federated Assurance Center or JFAC. JFAC is a federation of Department of Defense organizations that have a shared interest in promoting software and hardware assurance in defense programs, systems, and supporting activities. Crane has received national recognition as a critical center of expertise to verify microelectronic components can be trusted ensuring their integrity in their use by the Department of Defense Weapon and Cyber Systems.
Before testifying, Hamilton met with Indiana Senator Joe Donnely, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Ranking Member of the Strategic Force Subcommittee. Donnelly has authored provisions in the annual national defense bill to better combat the threat of counterfeit parts in Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain.
Donnelly says that counterfeit and compromised electronic parts pose a large and growing threat that can undermine our nation's military systems and equipment. He called Crane a leader in ensuring vital software and hardware critical to weapons and cyber systems can be trusted and work properly.
