(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - A Bartholomew County woman passed away in a house fire Monday morning.
Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department Spokesperson Judy Jackson says that at 4:39 a.m., Deputy Adam Warner responded to the report of a house fire in the 500 block of Jewell Street.
When firefighters and Deputies arrived, they found the house, located at 515 Jewell Street, filled with heavy smoke.
Investigators say that 54-year-old June Stewart was found overcome by smoke. She was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital's ER, where she was pronounced dead.
Stewart was home alone at the time of the fire and there were no other injuries.
Sheriff's Detectives and local fire investigators, along with the State Fire Marshall's Office, continue to investigate.
