(PERRY CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after a Jeffersonville man was injured while deer hunting earlier Sunday.
Police say 51-year-old Michael Davidson of Jeffersonville was injured while hunting on private property he leases in Perry County.
At approximately 7 a.m., Davidson was climbing ladder sticks to get into his lock-on tree stand when a strap on the ladder stand failed. Davidson fell approximately 20-25 feet to the ground. He had a cell phone, but no signal, and crawled almost 250 yards to his ATV and called 911 at approx. 9:30 a.m. Davidson then rode his ATV to meet responders at his vehicle.
Davidson was wearing a full-body safety harness but unfortunately was not connected to the tree by a safety life-line. Davidson's injuries included a broken left leg, shoulder pain, and possible broken ribs. Davidson refused medical care and was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital by his wife.
Assisting agencies included the Perry County Sheriff's Department, Perry County EMS and Rescue, and Air Medical Transport.
Indiana Conservation Officers urge everyone hunting from an elevated stand to always use a safety life-line while hunting and to check their equipment before each use.
