(VALPARAISO) - The Porter County coroner is awaiting results of toxicology tests on a 35-year-old jail inmate who died after telling police he would get sick from drug withdrawal.
The Munster Times reports an autopsy on Friday revealed little about why Brandon Givens died after being in jail more than two days.
The Valparaiso man died at a hospital Thursday after being found unconscious in his cell.
He was arrested Monday after a traffic stop when a sheriff's officer found injection paraphernalia and a small amount of suspected heroin. A police report says Givens on the way to jail "was adamant he was going to become extremely ill" because he planned on using the heroin.
It's not clear whether the jail has policies regarding inmates going through drug withdrawal.
