(EDINBURGH) - Military officials say about 2,000 soldiers are taking part in a two-week drill at the Indiana National Guard’s Camp Atterbury in preparation for future deployments.
Atterbury spokeswoman Capt. Jessica Cates says each soldier must participate in a Warfighter exercise once every 10 years and that the base near Edinburgh is a host site about every six months.
Cates tells the Franklin Daily Journal that the drills are carried out at indoor training centers where the soldiers go through virtual battlefield simulations to test their reactions, with specific tasks for various assignments.
The troops will be cleared for deployment overseas once they successfully complete the training at the base about 25 miles south of Indianapolis.
