1,000 Tons Of Newsprint Destroyed In Indiana Warehouse Fire

(OSSIAN) - As much as 1,000 tons of newspaper used to make insulation was destroyed when a fire struck warehouses in the northeastern Indiana town of Ossian.

The fire started Christmas Eve morning at the insulation manufacturer Energy Control. Ossian Fire Chief Ben Fenstermaker says the Thursday fire destroyed two of the business' three buildings. The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette reports that the destroyed newspaper was described as "50 semi loads of soggy paper."

Crews responded from the Bluffton, Ossian, Southwest and Union fire departments responded.

Owner David Bell says a room that contains controls and transformers to power large electric motors was damaged. He says the factory will have to be rewired.

Ossian is in Wells County about 15 miles south of Fort Wayne.
