(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bounty hunter is accused of killing two teenagers late Christmas Eve and burying their bodies overnight into Christmas morning.
Kevin Watkins made his first court appearance Wednesday morning on two murder charges. A scuffle broke out in the hallway outside the courtroom after the hearing, with deputies arresting two people - one in a headlock. (Watch video of the scuffle in the video player above)
Investigators found blood in Kevin Watkins' front yard Christmas morning leading into two trails - one that went into his own back yard and a second that went behind the garage of the vacant house next door. They also saw blood on the rear bumper and doors of Watkins' SUV.
After getting a search warrant, officers say they found a plastic rake behind some trash cans with a large amount of blood on it. Inside the trash cans, they found a broken window frame, a yellow dash light and a large wad of gray duct tape - all also covered in blood. Inside his SUV, they found a full garbage bag, bottle of bleach and rope. They also found what appeared to be brain matter just off the sidewalk in his front yard.
Watkins, 49, reportedly thought 16-year-old Satori Dionne Williams was responsible for a burglary at his house the week before. He even confronted the teen's girlfriend saying Williams "has another thing coming," according to court documents.
Williams, Timmee Jackson and two other juveniles were all hanging out together Christmas Eve at a home that sits about 100 feet from Watkins' home. They left for Bolton Avenue, one street over, but Williams and Jackson both went back to the home a few minutes later because Williams had left his cell phone there. The other two waited for them on Bolton, but never saw them again. Both Williams' and Jackson's mothers also said they never came home Christmas Eve.
"We was looking for him all Christmas Eve," said Pleasure Jackson, Timmee's sister. "We was looking for him all day. We just kept looking for him and then we found out yesterday that he was dead."
Williams was last seen wearing a red Indiana University hoodie, red, black & white sweatpants and red "LeBrons," carrying a black BB gun and a crowbar. Jackson was wearing a new black coat with leather on the sleeves, black pants and a black Dickie's style button-up shirt and carrying a folding knife. Pieces of both these outfits were found in the garbage bag in Watkins' SUV. They were covered in blood, some had been cut and others had pieces of bone and brain matter on them.
When police searched Watkins' business, "Watkins Bail Bonds" on Massachusetts Avenue, they found a dumpster with dark jeans covered in mud and shoes covered in blood, as well as a BB gun.
Watkins voluntarily went to the homicide office to give a statement, but then asked for a lawyer and did not actually give a statement, according to court records.
Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Denise Robinson said this is a unique murder case since authorities have not found the teens' bodies, but such cases have been successfully prosecuted before in Indiana.
"We would not anticipate a problem going forward," Robinson said. "If we did believe that, the case would not have been filed. But given the other evidence collected in the case, we're confident we can go forward and prosecute."
Investigators are awaiting DNA test results to see if the blood and tissue found is that of the boys.
