(GREENWOOD) - A former Colts player was arrested early Christmas morning.
Zurlon Tipton, Jr., and his brother, Cortez Tipton, were found inside a car that sped away from the 1400 block of Round Lake Road, where shots were reported around 12:45 a.m., according to Greenwood police. Zurlon was driving and police say he identified himself as an ex-Colt. Cortez was in the front passenger seat.
Police say they found a loaded 9mm handgun under the front seat and a loaded Colt AR-15 assault rifle in the back seat.
When police asked what happened, Zurlon told them he had gotten threatening text messages from his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend and he believed she was in danger. Zurlon and Cortez were at a party in Brownsburg at the time. They drove to his girlfriend's house in Greenwood to check on her.
When they arrived, Zurlon thought the ex-boyfriend was inside, so he sent Cortez to the front door while he got the Colt AR-15 and stood in the driveway and fired a shot.
The ex-boyfriend was actually not inside the house, so the brothers left and were detained by police.
Zurlon was arrested for criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and taken to the Johnson County Jail. He was later released on $3,000 bond.
Police say Zurlon cooperated with them during the investigation and did have a valid license to carry a handgun from the state of Michigan.
