(ELKHART) - A 12-year-old northern Indiana girl accused of fatally stabbing her stepmother has been placed in a state-run treatment facility two weeks after a northern Indiana judge and juvenile court magistrate ordered the state Division of Mental Health and Addiction to find a place for her.
The Elkhart Truth reports the Elkhart girl was placed in an undisclosed facility on Tuesday. An order that she be placed in a facility came after more than 10 mental health treatment centers refused to accept her. Doctors have said she is not competent to stand trial.
A juvenile delinquency petition for murder, similar to formal charges in adult court, was filed against the girl. Police say the woman was stabbed in July after confronting the girl about a fire she started.
