(SELLERSBURG) - Teachers of West Clark Community Schools in Sellersburg, say they need to be as proactive as possible when it comes to protecting their students.
A proposal by West Clark School Board Secretary Doug Coffman aims to arm some teachers, an idea that came up at the December school board meeting.
"What can we do to better protect our students?" Coffman asked.
He said he's not suggesting teachers have concealed carry.
"It's not like everybody is going to be packing a gun," he said.
The idea is that a teacher, who's had military or police training, could have access to a gun, possibly in a safe. One or more teachers could provide extra support to resource officers. Each campus in West Clark has one police trained resource officer.
Some parents don't know what to think about the proposal.
