Indiana Appeals Court Upholds Man's 98-Year Sentence

Last updated on Wednesday, January 6, 2016

(RICHMOND) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld an eastern Indiana man’s 98-year prison sentence in a drug-related slaying.

Twenty-one-year-old Robert Campbell had appealed the sentence a Wayne County judge gave him last February for his murder and robbery convictions in Mike Sekse's 2012 killing. But the appeals court recently affirmed that sentence.

The Palladium-Item reports Campbell claimed his sentence was inappropriate in light of his character, his age at the time of the killing and the nature of his offenses.

Authorities say Sekse was stabbed multiple times before Campbell grabbed a gun and shot him in the head during a robbery in a shed.

Campbell was one of five defendants in Campbell's killing. The four others were convicted in connection with the robbery and murder and sentenced to prison.
