(EVANSVILLE) - The manager of Evansville’s 4-year-old downtown arena says he’s working on options if its current minor league hockey team follows through on threats to move.
Ford Center manager Scott Schoenike says he expects the arena will have a hockey team next winter but decisions will have to be made soon if city officials and the Evansville IceMen can't reach a new lease agreement.
The IceMen and the University of Evansville's basketball team are the main tenants of the 11,000-seat arena that opened in late 2011. The city is resisting the IceMen owner's subsidy request because the $120 million arena operates at a loss.
Schoenike tells the Evansville Courier & Press he hopes to have a hockey team but would look to book more concerts as an alternative.
