(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana state legislators are one step closer to ruling out consequences for school accountability grades and teacher merit pay based on the 2015 ISTEP scores.
Wednesday, bills sailed through senate and house committees that would require a "pause" in "A-F" grades for schools and teacher pay based on the scores.
One legislator though, state senator Jean Leising, says holding for one year isn't sufficient given some of the problems with the ISTEP and scoring this year.
According to the state general assembly website, Senator Leising's bill calls for a two-year pause.
Her reasoning echoed that of EVSC officials, who, as we reported yesterday, say the scores released yesterday are so old they aren't helpful in preparing students for the 2016 ISTEP. Students take that test in just over two months.
Leising's bill has not made it out of committee, while the first two bipartisan bills are on their way to be voted on by the full House and Senate.
