(HARTSVILLE) - A Hartsville boy accidentally shot and killed his father after picking up an unsecured 38-caliber revolver that was on a desk in their home.
Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 200 block of Clinton Street in Hartsville at about 9:17 p.m. Sunday.
There they found 62-year-old James Lonaker with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He died while being transported to an Indianapolis trauma center for medical attention.
Lonaker had been sitting at his desk and did not see the 6-year-old child pick up the handgun.
Lonaker's wife and a 1-year-old infant who were in the home when the shooting occurred were not injured, deputies says.
