(INDIANAPOLIS) - The great-nephew of John Dillinger, who for years has fought to protect and clear the infamous bank robber’s name, is under investigation for criminal theft charges.
Attorney Jeffery Scalf of Mooresville has given up his law license amid "a pending investigation ... involving allegations of misconduct" that he couldn't defend.
Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega says the two criminal theft charges that Scalf faces in Morgan County could be dropped if he successfully completes the court's diversion program that works with defendants who struggled with mental health and other issues.
Scalf tells The Indianapolis Star (that he takes responsibility for his actions, but that there was a situation involving "serious health issues."
He founded Dillinger LLC to prevent the unlicensed and negative use of Dillinger's likeness and name.
