(INDIANAPOLIS) - The man accused of leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pregnant woman has been arrested, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed.
Hit-and-run detectives had been looking for 31-year-old Demarco Mathews since the fatal crash, which happened in the 3800 block of East New York Street on February 3. IMPD confirmed his arrest on Thursday.
Police say Mathews was driving the vehicle involved in the crash. His front seat passenger, 23-year-old Antoinette Johnson, died as a result of her injuries. Police say Mathews fled the scene afterward, without helping Johnson or notifying IMPD of the crash.
In that days that followed, detectives obtained a warrant charging Mathews with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, a Level 5 felony.
Johnson was the mother of three children and was seven months pregnant at the time of the crash.
