(HANCOCK CO.) - A Hancock County man will spend the next 40 years behind bars for repeatedly assaulting children left in his care.
47-year-old William Schini plead guilty in January to child molesting charges as part of a last minute plea deal to avoid a taped confession being played during the trial.
Court documents show that 10 other charges were dropped as part of the deal. On Tuesday a judge sentenced Schini to 40 years in the Indiana Department of Correction and will have to register as a sex offender.
According to the Greenfield Reporter, a girl came forward in 2014 and said that Schini had been abusing her since 2011. Police say during an interview Schini admitted to abusing the girl.
The victim and her mother were in court to testify on Tuesday. They said Schini's actions had a lasting impact on the family and will likely continue to impact their lives for years to come.
