Indiana Stadium Developers Eye Major League Soccer Expansion

Last updated on Monday, March 7, 2016

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The developers of a stadium and medical complex proposed for a site near Indianapolis’ former airport terminal say they’re hoping to bring a Major League Soccer expansion franchise to the city.

Athletes Business Network co-founder Craig Sanders says he's been in talks with the league to get a team for the planned 20,000-seat stadium.

The Indianapolis Star reports ABN's proposed $500 million sports and medical complex near the former Indianapolis International Airport terminal comes amid the league's expansion plans.

The league announced in December it planned to expand by four teams to 24 by 2020 and to 28 sometime thereafter.

Indianapolis is already home to the Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League, considered a lower tier. The Indy Eleven has been seeking a larger stadium.
