(RIPLEY CO.) - A off road vehicle crash resulted in an operating a vehicle while intoxicated charges and a juveniles being seriously injured.
Indiana Conservation Officers arrested 39-year-old Shawn Wirth on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI causing endangerment and OWI with serious bodily injury.
Injured was his passenger, 18-year-old Candice Roell. She suffered severe leg trauma to her left calf.
On Sunday at approximately 8:31 p.m. Indiana Conservation officers were contacted by Ripley County Sheriffs Department about an ORV accident involving injuries. Ripley County Deputies were on scene and administered Standardized Field Sobriety testing on Wirth.
Upon administration of the test, deputies determined that Wirth was intoxicated and was taken to Margret Mary Hospital for a toxicology test.
Police say Wirth was operating the ORV in an unsafe manner, causing the vehicle to be turned onto its driver side. The rear driver side passenger door of the vehicle opened; pinning Candice's leg to the ground.
Candice was transported to Margret Mary Hospital for medical treatment.
