(UNDATED) - Support your local Indiana state park or reservoir property by joining its Friends group.
Friends groups support DNR properties by helping with events, working on trails, fundraising and providing other financial support for projects, equipment, supplies and materials.
"It is wonderful to see these groups grow throughout our DNR properties," said Jody Heaston, volunteer coordinator for DNR Division of State Parks. "When group members put their passions together for the outdoors it equals amazing results for the visitor's enjoyment of that property."
Links to each friends group are at stateparks.IN.gov/2442.htm.
If you are interested in helping start a Friends group for your favorite state park or reservoir property, contact the property office. You will need a core group of people who can work hard, serve as initial officers, coordinate articles of incorporation, establish non-profit status with the Internal Revenue Service, and publicize and support the group's organization the first few years.
"There is time and energy involved, but it can be a rewarding effort," Heaston said.
