(INDIANAPOLIS) - After enjoying near record low prices for gas for the past six to nine months, Hoosiers drivers as well as the rest of the nation are starting to see prices creep up at the pump.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) is reporting that prices throughout much of the nation are averaging about $2.10 a gallon, which is just about a dime more than this time last month.
AAA is citing record-high fuel demand, declining refinery production and rising oil costs all as contributing factors for the bump in prices.
Although the official start of the vacationing season, Memorial Day, has yet to arrive, economists believe the increase in driving may put pressure on local gasoline markets and cause prices to move higher if demand outpaces the available supply of gasoline. However, drivers remain poised to benefit from substantial comparative savings as the busy summer driving season approaches and it's likely that most drivers will still pay the cheapest summertime prices in 12 years.
