(MADISON CO.) - Shortly before 12:30 a.m. this morning, Indiana State police received a call to be on the look out for a a reported stolen red 1997 Ford Ranger pickup.
ISP received information from Muncie Police Dispatch that the truck had just been used in an armed robbery attempt at the Muncie Food Mart on Madison St. in Muncie, and was being driven by an armed male suspect.
Less than five minutes later, Pendleton District K-9 Trooper Kendrick Donald got behind the vehicle on State Road 67 going into Daleville. The truck refused to stop when Trooper Donald activated his lights, and continued on into Madison County. In the Chesterfield area of County Road 500 East and State Road 32, the 17-year-old male juvenile bailed out armed with a handgun and ran.
Trooper Donald "deployed" his K-9 partner, who gave chase and quickly apprehended and disarmed the teen.
The juvenile suspect, who listed an Indianapolis address, was transported to IU Health's Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie where he received treatment for dog bites to his arm and leg. After receiving treatment he was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center.
The stolen pickup truck was returned to its owner.
