(WEST LAFAYETTE) - For the fifth year in a row, Purdue University is freezing tuition.
President Mitch Daniels made the announcement Wednesday evening at the Purdue Student Government meeting.
Tuition and fees will remain frozen through the 2017-2018 academic year. This means they will be the same as they were in 2012-2013.
Purdue said it has saved students $134 million over the first three years.
Daniels said it has also played a factor in an increase in applications.
"Purdue now has some reputation as a school that is sensitive to the cost of students and trying to remain accessible to students of all income levels," said Daniels.
Last year, the university announced a 3.5 percent pool for merit pay increases for employees. Daniels announced Wednesday that Purdue will be able to offer a merit pool of 2.5 percent this year. He assured students the tuition freeze won't come at the expense of faculty and staff.
