(MONTGOMERY CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a hunting accident that occurred in Southwestern Montgomery County Wednesday morning.
One hunter was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the face and shoulder.
Police say, 37-year-old Jeremy Phillips, of Crawfordsville was turkey hunting along a farm field near Jim Davis Bridge. He was set up some decoys along the edge of the field and was attempting to call in a turkey.
At the same time 31-year-old David Dawson, of Ladoga, was also turkey hunting in the same area.
Dawson noticed the decoys, but had mistaken them for actual turkeys. Dawson took a shot from across the field at the decoys. Dawson then began stalking the decoys.
Phillips had gotten up after he noticed his decoys had been shot. At the same time Dawson came in from the back side of the decoys and fired a single shot at the decoys striking Phillips, who was in the field beyond the decoys.
It is strongly advised to never stalk a turkey.

This case will be sent to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Agencies assisting on the scene included the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Alamo First Responders, and Crawfordsville Medics.
