(EDINBURGH) - Edinburgh police arrested two Chicago residents on multiple fraud-related charges after they were accused of loading other people’s credit card numbers onto gift and credit cards and attempting to buy cigarettes with them.
25-year-old Sir Patrick R. Taylor was arrested Monday on charges of felony fraud on a financial institution, felony corrupt business influence, felony fraud, felony neglect of a dependent and misdemeanor theft.
26-year-old Gerlissa G. Turner was arrested Monday on charges of felony fraud on a financial institution, felony corrupt business influence, felony fraud, felony neglect of a dependent, misdemeanor theft and misdemeanor reckless driving.
On Tuesday, during a search of the vehicle, police found 834 packs of Newport brand cigarettes in the passenger compartment and in the trunk as well as 40 gift or credit cards. Receipts with the cigarettes showed multiple purchases in several other Indiana counties, including Boone, Jackson and Tippecanoe, as well as Louisville, Kentucky.
Detectives determined that 37 of the cards, which had banking account information loaded on them, did not match the number printed on the individual cards.
