(FORT WAYNE) - Some faculty members at the joint Fort Wayne campus of Indiana and Purdue universities are arguing against a budget-cutting plan they say unfairly targets liberal arts programs.
A report released this month projects the Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne campus could see a $3 million revenue shortfall next year on its $110 million operating budget. That comes as the campus has seen an 11 percent enrollment decline since 2011 and follows a January recommendation that it be split into separate schools.
English professor Rachel Hile tells The (Fort Wayne) Journal Gazette (http://bit.ly/1TgN3uQ ) that she disagreed with the report's recommendations that IPFW focus on health science and engineering programs. She calls that "focusing on education as job training."
IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein says she hasn't directed the campus task force to recommend cuts.
