(MUNCIE) - A man shot by Muncie police Saturday afternoon has died.
Officers found a 15-year-old female stabbed in the 1300 block of W. 18th Street on the south side around 4:20 p.m., and 31-year-old Larry Stepp was holding a knife. Stepp reportedly ignored orders to drop the knife. When he started approaching officers while still holding the knife, police say they were forced to shoot him.
Both Stepp and the teen were taken to IU Ball Memorial Hospital. The girl is expected to be okay.
Stepp was being taken into surgery both for the gunshot wounds from police and self-inflicted knife wounds, but later died.
An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
State Police are helping with the investigation.
