(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a 5-3 decision, striking portions of a Texas law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and meet standards for outpatient surgical centers.
Indiana's Republican lawmakers in DC reacted Monday afternoon. Rep. Todd Rokita issued the following statement in response to the ruling.
"As a pro-life American, I am deeply disappointed in today's Supreme Court decision. This ruling undoes sensible provisions passed by Texans' elected representatives, and further jeopardizes women's health and the safety of unborn children. As a Member of Congress, I have and will continue to fight for the rights of the unborn."
Senator Dan Coats had a statement: "I am troubled that the Supreme Court ruled against this commonsense Texas statute - potentially jeopardizing the lives of both mother and child," said Coats. "This Texas state law requires abortion clinics to comply with the same standards as other medical facilities. It is a reasonable requirement that is necessary to ensure the health and safety of women and their children."
