(JASPER) - A Jasper woman was severely injured when she was struck by a car on Newton Street early Saturday morning.
According to Jasper Police, 22-year-old Darrin Dupont of Huntingburg was northbound on Newton Street in a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme at about 3:30 a.m. Dupont told police that as he approached the intersection with 32nd Street, a female pedestrian was crossing Newton and walked into the path of his car.
He told police he didn't have time to react and his car struck the woman.
According to police, the pedestrian, 50-year-old Nancy Baer of Jasper, suffered major injuries. She was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance and then transferred by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Dupont is not facing any charges at this time but the incident is still under investigation.
