(NEWBURGH) - A southwestern Indiana police chief has resigned following a five-day suspension without pay.
The Newburgh Police Commission announced the resignation of Chief Brett Sprinkle during a public meeting Wednesday following a closed executive session.
Officials in the town 8 miles east of Evansville haven't disclosed why Sprinkle was suspended.
Sprinkle had been police chief since 2005.
Calls to Sprinkle's home rang busy Thursday afternoon, and he could not be reached for comment.
