(JASPER) - Vincennes University President Chuck Johnson received a one-year contract extension following a positive annual performance evaluation by the VU Board of Trustees at its meeting Wednesday on the VU Jasper Campus. Johnson’s new contract will run through December 31, 2019.
"Dr. Johnson received very high marks from everybody involved in the discussion," said Board Chair John Stachura. "I myself appreciate the job Dr. Johnson has done for the University during his three years as provost and his year as president."
Johnson was appointed VU's 22nd President last December after serving as VU Interim President following the July 31, 2015 retirement of President Dick Helton. Johnson previously served VU as provost/vice president of Instructional Services/dean of faculty since August 2012.
Johnson has played a significant role in the development of business and industry partnerships. He has also been instrumental in developing collaborative relationships with K-12 schools and career and technical education centers throughout Indiana.
"The Board is in full support of Chuck," said Michael Sievers, first vice chair of the VU Board. "He has done an outstanding job. We had high expectations of him and he has lived up to those and, in many ways, exceeded those expectations. We appreciate everything he has done for VU and look forward to a long-term working relationship with the Board."
A native of Washington, Indiana, Johnson came to VU in 2012 from Purdue University, West Lafayette, where he served more than 14 years overseeing internationally ranked MBA, master's, and executive education programs for the Krannert School of Management. While at Purdue he also served as a consultant to a start-up institution of higher education in Kuwait, the American University of the Middle East. He later served as a member of its
Board of Advisors.
Prior to joining Purdue, Johnson worked in training and development and human resources for National City Bank in Toledo, Ohio (now PNC), and in a variety of student and academic affairs and instructional positions over 11 years at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Johnson graduated from Washington Catholic High School prior to earning a B.S. in economics from Indiana State University. He holds an MBA from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Purdue University, West Lafayette.
In other business the VU Board approved a resolution directing President Johnson to execute a deed conveying five lots to the City of Vincennes for the purpose of maintaining the levee and the area of Kelso Creek for flood protection. VU will retain ownership of a building on the property with an easement for VU to provide maintenance to the building.
