Fort Wayne Museum Of Art Purchases Chihuly Chandelier

Last updated on Thursday, August 18, 2016

(FORT WAYNE) - The Fort Wayne Museum of Art has purchased a chandelier created by glass artist Dale Chihuly.

The piece is called "Lily Gold Chandelier" and is made of more than 100 hand-blown glass tendrils. Museum Chief Operating Officer Amanda Martin tells The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette the chandelier has a market value of more than $400,000, but says the museum did not pay that much for it in an auction. She declined to disclose the cost.

The museum has displayed Chihuly's work in the "Dale Chihuly: The George Stroemple Collection" in 2002, and again for the 2013 "Secret Garden" exhibition, which opened in conjunction with the museum's inaugural Summer of Glass exhibit.

Chihuly's glass pieces are included in more than 200 museum collections around the globe.
