(ST. JOSEPH Co.) - As a result of recent severe storms beginning August 15, Governor Mike Pence has requested the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) disaster loan program for St. Joseph County.
"Recent storms have battered the state, most severely in South Bend and St. Joseph County," said Indiana Governor Mike Pence. "At my direction, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security is coordinating with local responders and leaders to assist. Damage assessments have been ongoing, and qualifying damage has pointed efforts toward a request for low-interest disaster loans."
Recovery and damage assessments from August 24 storms and tornadoes have begun and are being documented. It will take additional time until the full extent of that damage is recorded.
If declared, contiguous counties would also qualify for the loans. If granted, residents, businesses and certain non-profit organizations affected would be eligible to apply.
