Last updated on Wednesday, August 24, 2016

(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers are seeking qualified applicants for upcoming hiring processes.

People that are interested in pursuing a career in Conservation Law Enforcement should visit the website http://www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/2760.htm prior to November 29, 2016. Located on the website is a "Stay In Touch" form that should be filled out and submitted. This form will be used to keep interested applicants up to date on recruiting events and phases of upcoming hiring processes.

Indiana Conservation Officers are fully empowered law enforcement officers who are employed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and enforce all laws of Indiana. Primary duties of Conservation Officers include enforcement of fish and wildlife laws, natural, historical, and cultural resource laws, boating laws, and outdoor recreation laws. Conservation Officers are also tasked with enforcing laws of the other divisions within the DNR and are the main law enforcement presence in Indiana's state parks.

On the website listed above there is also a "Pre-screening Test" that should be filled out and submitted for interested applicants. This test is a questionnaire that ensures each applicant meets the minimum qualifications to be considered for employment. The minimum qualifications are as follows: must be a United States citizen, must be 21 years of age by October 20, 2017, must have an Associate's degree or 60 credit hours towards a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or in lieu of the college requirements have 4 years active concurrent military service with a honorable discharge by May 22, 2017, and must not have a felony or misdemeanor domestic battery conviction. The applicant must also be able to complete the minimum physical test standards set forth by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

District Four Conservation Officers will be conducting recruiting events to provide further information about job duties and responsibilities, requirements and preparation for physical fitness testing, requirements and preparation for written testing and oral interview, preparation for core values training (recruit school), and an overall look at the proposed 2017 hiring process. These events are being held to benefit and prepare those interested in the career of a lifetime, but are entirely voluntary.

The recruiting event schedule in District Four is as follows:

Like and follow the District Four Facebook page (Indiana DNR Law District 4) to ask questions, for updated information, and to interact with your local Conservation Officers. A map of Indiana showing all counties and respective districts can be found at the website http://www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/2755.htm.
