(NEW CASTLE) - Inmates set fire to the Henry County Jail early this morning.
Sheriff Richard McCorkle says the inmates were attempting to prevent cell doors to a shared common area from closing. The mechanism that opens and closes the doors is heat sensitive.
The fire got out of hand and the New Castle Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.
Inmates were moved to a recreation area while firefighters battled the fire.
The sheriff says the jail remained secure throughout the incident.
