Noblesville Teacher Charged With Child Seduction

Last updated on Friday, August 19, 2016

(NOBLESVILLE) - A former Noblesville teacher has been charged with child seduction.

Police say, 35-year-old Nicholas McKinney, had an inappropriate relationship with a student over several months in 2012. School officials notified police this month when they learned of the allegations.

McKinney resigned August 4, two days after the police investigation began. The student involved in the allegations attended Noblesville High School at the time of the relationship, but is no longer a student at the school.

McKinney is facing one count of criminal deviate conduct and two counts of felony child seduction. He was arrested Wednesday.

According to a probable cause affidavit the victim told police the incident happened during the summer of 2012. She was 17 years old at that time.

She says that one summer night, she and McKinney were texting and he invited her to his home in Broad Ripple because his wife was out of town. The victim and her friend went to McKinney's home where he provide them with alcohol and taught them how to do tequila shots. It got late and the victim and her friend couldn't drive home, so McKinney invited them to sleep in his bed while he slept on the couch.

The victim told police she woke in the middle night to find McKinney in bed with her and her friend and him touching her inappropriately.

The victim's boyfriend told police he had a conversation with his girlfriend in July of this year regarding the incident and that is when she told him McKinney had touched her.

In an interview with police on Aug. 2, McKinney told police he never had students inside his home for any reason, with the exception of student assistants who would babysit. He later admitted to police that the victim had been inside his home sometime during the summer of 2012. He admitted to drinking that night and that he believed the victim and her friend had, but he denied giving them the alcohol. He also denied being in bed with the girls or touching the victim.

This is the second Noblesville High School teacher in two years to be investigated for having inappropriate conduct with students.

Last year, Michael Douce, a former high school music teacher, pled guilty to two counts of child seduction. Police say Douce had sex with two students at school, his home and at one of their homes. He's now serving an eight-year prison term.
