(STATEWIDE) - Be careful where you buy your next car from.
Indiana State Police tell RTV6 that car dealers and other individuals can buy flooded vehicles from junk yards or auctions, fix them up and then resell them on the market. It's legal for them to do that, but those cars have to be inspected and the necessary documents have to follow the car through its entire life span.
Carfax says more than 271,000 flood-damaged cars are back on the road in the United States. That includes more than 8,000 in Indiana.
