(GEIST RESERVOIR) - Indiana Conservation Officers, with assistance from Fishers Fire and Police personnel, have recovered the body of the missing boater from Geist Reservoir.
As search efforts resumed this morning, Conservation Officers used side scan sonar to quickly locate the body. Side scan sonar is a relatively new tool available to law enforcement which provides a much clearer image of underwater objects and lessens the risk to public safety divers.
At 9:23 a.m. this morning, scuba divers from the Fishers Police Department recovered the body of Andrew Dimitroff from 23 feet of water in "Cocktail Cove." Dimitroff was reported missing by friends on the evening of September 3. He was among a group jumping from a large raft into the reservoir at the time of his disappearance. Alcohol and lack of a life jacket are believed to have played a role in the accident.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this afternoon at the request of the Hamilton County Coroner's Office to determine cause of death. Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind the boating public of the importance of taking the extra few seconds to put on a life jacket prior to entering the water for any reason.
