(HAMILTON CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers have spent the evening interviewing witnesses and utilizing sonar units to attempt to locate a missing boater on Geist Reservoir.
Police say 24-year-old Andrew Dimitroff, of Indianapolis went missing Saturday evening while recreating on Geist Reservoir.
Dimitroff was with a large group of boaters anchored in Cocktail Cove. They had put out two large inflatable rafts and were taking turns jumping into the water.
At 6:29 p.m., one of the other boaters called 911 when they realized that Dimitroff was no longer with them. At that time Conservation Officers, along with Fishers Police, Fishers Fire, and Indianapolis Fire responded to the area and performed a coordinated search. The search utilized divers from Fishers Fire, boats from Indianapolis Fire, and sonar units from Conservation Officers to scan the bottom of the cove.
The search was suspended around 12 a.m. and is set to resume in this morning.
Dimitroff was not wearing a life jacket at the time of his disappearance. According to witness accounts, alcohol may have been a factor.
Witness reports varied slightly in the exact location of the boats.
