(NORTH VERNON) - Indiana State Police detectives arrested a former North Vernon police officer,43year-old Brandy Blevins on an arrest warrant related to allegations of official misconduct that occurred while she was an employee of the North Vernon Police Department.
The investigation by detectives began in February 2016 when the North Vernon Police Department contacted the Indiana State Police and requested an investigation be conducted after discrepancies were discovered during a routine internal audit of the property being stored in the department's evidence room.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Blevins, while working as a detective for the North Vernon Police Department, stole numerous items of evidence from the department's evidence room. Blevins also altered medical records from Schneck Medical Center and submitted those to the North Vernon Police Department during an internal investigation being conducted in December 2015.
As a result of the lengthy investigation, a warrant was issued Monday out of the Jennings County Circuit Court for the arrest of Blevins on one count each of Official Misconduct-Level 6 Felony, Forgery-Level 6 Felony, and Theft-Class A Misdemeanor.
Indiana State Police Detectives served the warrant on Blevins Monday afternoon. She was taken into custody without incident and incarcerated at the Jennings County Jail.
Blevins resigned from her position with the North Vernon Police Department in February 2016.
